How to Break the Social Time-Suck and Get Your Time Back
You have good intentions with your time if you're anything like me. But more often than we’d like to admit, we fall into the endless scroll on various social platforms. This is highly problematic.
A few pitfalls
Wasting Time - the most valuable finite resource known to mankind is time. We have yet to figure out how to craft more of it, and until we do, we must use it wisely. There are so many more productive things you could be doing.
Adverse effects on your mental health. Studies have shown that excessive social media use can lead to an increase in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
To overcome this issue, you first must acknowledge the problem. If you’re using social media for more than 20 minutes per day for anything other than business, networking, learning or any other positive impact activity, then you’re likely just scrolling, trying to find a dopamine hit.
Let’s tackle it.
Positive Usage
For users building businesses or personal brands or even trying to network within a specific niche, your time on Twitter or any other platform would benefit significantly from the following.
Setting Guidelines
Putting in place a strategy around how many posts per day, how much time replying etc.
Example: Total 1hr replying to relevant accounts in 20-minute intervals. This activity will allow you to see new content + engage and grow. Set guidelines for your entire strategy.
Scheduling Posts
Schedule your posts a week in advance. Take some time upfront to sit down, focus and schedule your week. Or, half the week and do this twice. Take notes throughout the day on topics you’d like to cover.
Being Intentional
You have more time than you think; becoming intentional with the day opens a new world of efficiency and effectiveness. Only use social when there is a blatant reason. Replying to comments on your posts, listening to a live Instagram feed or Twitter Spaces.
The platforms have mastered control of your mind. The notifications and endless scroll are tailored brilliantly to hook you. The moment has come to reclaim your time back.

Story Time
In a world, not so different from ours, there was a young man named Jack who was in his early 20s. He had always dreamed of becoming a successful entrepreneur. However, despite his ambition, he struggled with discipline and confidence. He often procrastinated, and when it came time to pitch his ideas, he froze up and couldn't articulate himself clearly.
For years, Jack struggled to make any real progress in his career. He would start projects, but never finish them, and he couldn't seem to shake the feeling that he was just not cut out for success.
But one day, something changed. Jack had hit rock bottom and was tired of working dead-end jobs and not making real progress. He knew that if he wanted to achieve his dreams, he had to make a change.
He decided to start small. He began by setting small, achievable goals for himself each day and committed to sticking to them. He forced himself to wake up early every morning and focused on building good habits, like exercising and eating well.
As Jack began to see progress in his daily habits, he started to gain confidence in himself. He realized that if he could be disciplined in these small areas of his life, he could also be punished in other areas.
With renewed determination, Jack threw himself into his work. He spent countless hours researching and networking and finally landed a meeting with a successful entrepreneur. He could articulate his ideas clearly and effectively, and the entrepreneur was impressed.
Jack's hard work and grit had paid off. He landed a job with the entrepreneur and began to work on his projects. His discipline and determination finally led him to success.
From that day on, Jack was a changed man. He had overcome his lack of discipline and confidence and knew that he could achieve anything he set his mind to. He worked tirelessly to build his business, and soon it became one of the most successful in the industry.
Jack's story is a reminder that success doesn't come easy. It takes hard work, grit, and determination to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. But with discipline and confidence, anything is possible.
